Cette petite île au sud-ouest de l'océan Indien est un véritable joyau, de géologie et de biodiversité, dont le c1/2ur est classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO sous l'appellation "Piton, Cirques et Remparts". Deux massifs volcaniques la composent : le Piton de la Fournaise, un des volcans les plus actifs de notre planète, et le Piton des Neiges, plus ancien, qui a depuis quelques milliers d'années laissé toute liberté à l'eau pour façonner ses paysages.
